QUEEN组建于1971年，乐队成员是主唱Freddie Mercury,吉他手Brain May,贝司手John Deacon,鼓手Rpyer Taylor，这个阵容一直保持了二十年未变。它与当时流行的大多数穿破牛仔裤、蓄长发、在台上吸烟的重金属乐队几位不同：他们涂着黑色的指甲油，穿着考究，显得十分高贵。他们的音乐也如他们的外表一样，与普通金属风格迥异，被称为贵族风格的纯盎格鲁金属。
1991年，弗雷迪·莫库里因病过世；1997年，约翰·迪肯退休。现任团员剩下布赖恩·梅、罗杰·泰勒。
